Nollaig Kids

£3.60

This festive sweater is a round-yoked, colourwork sweater with a choice of different motifs to add to the yoke.

This is my annual charity pattern release. All proceeds from the purchase of this pattern will be donated to the Fistula Foundation, and I’ll be matching up to £5000 in sales. There’s also an adult version of this pattern here.

It’s worked from the top down. First the collar is worked, then the yoke is shaped with increases, and the chart of choice is worked. The yoke is finished off with raglan shaping to improve the fit. The body and sleeves are worked in the round.

COLOURWORK
Some of the charts are very simple with just two colours and no big floats. Some have multiple colours and longer floats. You might want to take this into account when choosing a motif. I erred to keeping the charts simple, but you might find adding an extra star, snowflake or patterning around your main motif might make it easier to manage your floats. You can also skip part of the chart (e.g. a nose) and add them after the fact with duplicate stitch.

There is a separate document with charts included, but you can design your own or tweak the ones that are here. You could add an extra row or 2 without any major issue or divide the stitch count differently if that works fo rwhat you’re trying to achieve. Chart minder is a helpful free charting tool if you’d like to try it.

Finally, feel free to jazz up the colourwork! Consider holding sparkly yarns or fluff, try adding embroidery after the fact or sewing on sequins or bows.

MOTIFS INCLUDED
Christmas tree, snowflake (x3), mini snowflakes, bow, robin, reindeer, mistletoe, holly berries, gingerbread person, santa hat, bauble (x2), wreath, fairy lights, stars, snowman.

The charts are 10x10
