Feolin
My grandparents were very avid sailors and spent most of their summer months aboard their boat, Feolinn. She took them on very grand adventures throughout the Scottish islands and further afield to Ireland and mainland Europe. My Granny Joan passed away whilst I was working on this book, and upon her passing I inherited their sailing logbooks. They have decades worth of stories, each volume covering one summer, almost all of which were aboard Feolinn.
GAUGE

Supersoft Lambswool 4ply
(100% wool, 246 m / 270 yds per 50 g) held double.

CONSTRUCTION
Feolin is a modern take on a classic gansey.
It’s worked from the bottom up and has dropped shoulders. The shoulders are joined with a three-needle I-cord bind-off, and the neckline, cuffs and hem, as well as the top of the sleeve, have 2 x 2 rib detailing.
GAUGE
20 stitches x 30 rows per 10 cm / 4" with 4 mm
[US 6] needles in Stockinette Stitch, after blocking.
NEEDLE SIZES
4 mm [US 6] for body and sleeves, 3.5 mm [US 4] for cuffs, hem, and neckline. You will need a spare needle around the same size for
the Three-Needle Bind-Off.
YARDAGE
1415 (1570, 1766, 1937, 2100, 2316) (2537, 2747, 2975, 3151, 3387) m / 1542 (1711, 1925, 2111, 2289, 2525) (2766, 2994, 3242, 3435, 3692) yds of fingering-weight yarn held double.
If using a DK-weight instead, you’ll need half of the amount listed.
YARN
The sample was knit in JC Rennie Supersoft Lambswool 4ply (100% wool, 246 m / 270 yds per 50 g) held double.
A DK-weight yarn, a 4ply held double or a 4ply held with a lace-weight would also work well. Suitable DK-weight yarns include Baa Ram Ewe Woodnote DK and Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Worsted.
